Introduction
On Sunday, August 1, 2004, the worst tragedy in decades hit Paraguay.
During the Sunday lunch hour rush, a fire broke out in the bakery of the Ycua Bolanos supermarket. The fire ignited nearby propane tanks causing a huge explosion. The resulting inferno engulfed the entire 3-story structure within 3 minutes.
There were nearly 1,000 people inside the building. Over 400 perished & around 500 were injured.
